From Scotch Malt Whisky Society comes this 21 year old
Caol Ila. It is called ‘BBQ in pine-clad dunes’ and is from a Refill Ex-Sherry
Butt. It is one of 597 bottles. The smell is good but a bit weak. Sweet sherry
notes and hints of peat.
There is peat, lemongrass, honey and raisins in the
taste. The first that comes to mind in the finish is dates. After this some
subtle peat and some subtle sherry notes.
This is a nice well balanced Caol Ila. I just love the
subtle peat in the older Islay whiskies. I will give this 90/100 (21/23/23/23).
