Clynelish 18 yo (1997/2015), Chieftains, 46 %

Review #397
This is from the series Limited Edition Collection. It is a mix of two hogsheads with cask numbers 6580 and 6581. 544 bottles were made. Very fruity at first in the smell. White fruits, especially apples mixes with vanilla and honey. After a minute some sweetness from overripe pears appear and baked apples. Almost apple pie.

Very classic at first in the taste. Very much like the smell. White fruits mixed with vanilla and honey. Some oak comes forward in the finish with the apples (fresh apples) even more present. I miss that burst of flavours I was expecting after the smell… It is very subtle.

The classic smoothness from older Clynelish is sort of missing in this one. And why, oh why, didn’t they bottle this at cask strength? The smell would have been fantastic and the flavours in the taste would have been much more dominating! I will give this 84/100 (21/21/21/21).
