Kilchoman Saligo Bay (5 yo), 46%

Review #505
Originally released for travel retail. Saligo Bay is an area close to Kilchoman Distillery – Islay’s most beautiful bay, according to many. Fresh and clean, yet with the farm-like peat in the smell. Some grass and hay as well, but it all seems to be a bit in the background.

Much more full-bodied in the taste. The peat, grass and hay comes forward and mixes with some lime. The finish gets more sweet with caramel, vanilla and honey. Medium long finish, even though it seems like some faint notes stays forever…

Classic Bourbon cask matured. A lot of taste for a 5 year old whisky, but Kilchoman spirit is very flavourful, so that helps. It is one of the lighter Kilchoman expressions though, so perhaps a great introduction, if you want to ease into these power- and flavourful Islay whiskies from Kilchoman. I will give this 84/100 (20/21/22/21).
