The Irishman, Cask Strength (2017 release), 54%

Review #578
This is a mix of single malt and single pot still whiskey. It is matured in first fill ex-Bourbon casks and 3510 bottles were made. It is very mild on the nose, considering the high ABV. Actually it is quite pleasant. Burned caramel, honey, vanilla and over ripe pears.

A kick in the teeth at first. The taste is full of wood spices and burned sugar. Candied apples and burned oak. The finish is long and warm with some raisins and dates coming through. Some coconut as well in the background.

I can understand why these Bourbon casks were chosen! So much flavour from the oak is coming through, but not too much - I really think the casks were chosen just at the right time. I will give this 86/100 (21/21/22/22).
