It was actually a cotton mill for
180 years before it in 1965 became a distillery. It took 9 months to
reconstruct it from the cotton mill to a distillery, so since 1966 they have
been producing single malt whisky. The town of Deanston is evolved around the
cotton mill and therefore there is a strong connection between the distillery
and the small town of Deanston.
For this reason we chose the “Deanston Heritage Tour” which includes a tour through the distillery and a tour through the town ending with a visit in the tasting room to taste some of the Deanston single malt whiskies.

A couple of features that is special for Deanston Distillery which is worth mentioning:
- They have
one of the only open Mash Tuns in Scotland.
- Part of the
movie Angels Share is recorded here.

It was a great combination of local
history and whisky production, all from Deanston. Nice and calm people at the
distillery, and with a good restaurant attached, the tour through the beautiful
nature, old town and the old cotton mill (now the Deanston Distillery) resulted
in a great day! I will rate this tour 6/10.
