Review #261 |
Bruichladdich
have made some expressions with barley from different local Islay sources. In
this 2009 expression (bottled in 2015) they have used barley from Claggan, Cruach, Island & Mulindry Farms. The smell is very malty and seems a bit young. Some vanilla and oak
notes, but a bot sharp on the nose.
The taste is
very coastal with some vanilla, coconut and citrusy notes. Some malt and barley
notes as well that goes on into the finish where it mixes with the vanilla
sweetness.
Compared to the
Islay Barley 2007 there is a huge difference. This seems a bit younger and not
as complex. The malt, barley and citrus is very dominant from start to finish. I will rate this
84/100 (20/21/22/21).
