Macallan 2001 (bottled 2010), G&M Speymalt, 43 %

Review #311
A young Speymalt from Gordon & MacPhail. Sherry casks as always, and that shows in the smell! It is only 9 years old, but the dried fruits are already so heavily present. Dates, figs, raisins, you name it! Just a touch of oak and the sweetness is just pure fruity sweetness.

So dark in the taste! All the dried fruits are there, tannins, oak and sweet sweet berries. The oak and tannins stays in the finish for quite some time, with some different dried fruits accompanying along the way.

So much flavor in such a young whisky. I don’t think you get it much more “sherry-bomb” at 43 %. What a great job both Macallan and G&M does! If you like the heavily sherried whiskies, this is you. And the best thing, it’s cheap! I will rate this 88/100 (22/22/22/22).
