Review #385 |
This is
from a first fill Sherry cask, with the cask number 7156. Some of the cask is bottled for the Danish whisky forum on Facebook "Dansk Whisky Forum". The colour is
remarkable in this one! So is the smell. Sweet burned sugar with loads of dried
fruits. Ripe cherries, raisins and sweet plums, but it also have a savory side.
The oak is heavy as well.
So much oak
in the taste. When that settles, the fruits starts rushing in. You get the
classic dried fruits, but it is mixed with some red fruits, making the taste a
bit fresh instead of all heavy. Very sweet as well. The oak continues in the
finish, and it gets even sweeter than in the taste. Some coffee and dark
chocolate comes forward as well with some sweet tobacco (if that makes sense).
A very good dram, but is it just missing the
last touch to break through to the top quality shelf. I think the oak is a bit
too dominating, so maybe it should have been bottled a couple of years earlier.
Maybe you wouldn’t get the red fruits, coffee, tobacco and chocolate if you had done so?
Who knows… It is still very good, and I will rate this 90/100 (22/23/23/22).
