Highland Park 17 yo, The Dark, 52,9%

Review #619
The first in a series of two, that celebrates the seasons on Isle of Orkney. The Dark represents autumn and winter, and The Light (which comes later in 2018) represent spring and summer. Light peat, oak and caramel in the smell. Hints of sweet raisins.

The peat and the oak work very well together in the taste. Some dried fruits and burned caramel joins the show. The finish is very long and warm. Very sweet as well. Sweet raisins and just fruity sweetness from the dried fruits in general.

I really enjoy that sweetness the Sherry casks gives this expression in the finish. Very elegant indeed and the cask strength makes it very flavourful! A bit pricy, but it is a very good whisky. I will give this 89/100 (22/22/23/22).
