Review #534 |
Originally for travel retail. This is the
first in the series and is finished in Madeira casks. The expression is made in
honour of the Portuguese explorers of the 15th century. Honey and
caramel sweetness in the smell. Some sweet peaches and red berries as well. The
vanilla is present as well, and it is very clear that it is a finish and not
full maturation in Madeira casks. Not that it is a bad thing, the mix between
the Bourbon and Madeira maturation works very well.
A great mix of spices and fruits in the taste. Black
pepper and dates. The finish is a bit more sweet with raisins and burned
caramel, but still with the great mix of spices and fruits. The oak is also
present from start to finish.
A great dessert whisky. Would go great with
some vanilla ice cream, where you don´t want to big an alcohol burn, but the
complexity of spices and fruits to accompany the sweet vanilla ice cream. I
will give this 85/100 (21/21/22/21).
