Review #321 |
From
Douglas Laing comes this 21 year old Highland Park matured in a refill Sherry
butt. It has cask number DL 9200 and only 285 bottles were made. It is very
sharp on the nose, but even if you give it time in the glass to open, not much
happens. Some salty caramel and marzipan sweetness.
Very warm
on the palate. The real Island character is in full effect here. Salty, nutty,
vanilla and caramel sweetness. Salted caramel again. The finish is warm, long
and lies in the mouth like a cover. Some farmer notes comes forward here, like
grass and hay, and it actually works very well.
A different
Highland Park, yet very classic! Hard to describe, without tasting it. If you
give it some water, some citrusy notes appear, and that really suits this cask
strength whisky. I will rate this 87/100 (21/22/22/22).
