Glengoyne 18 yo, 43%

Review 542
This joined the Glengoyne range in 2012 and was the replacement for the 17 year old. Glengoyne states that it has “a generous proportion of first-fill sherry casks”. Dried fruits and dark chocolate in the smell. Actually very dark for whisky at 43%. Make sure that it has the right temperature and give it a couple of minutes in the glass, then it really opens up.

The taste surprised me a bit. The dried fruits are almost gone, and some oak and white fruits are dominant now. Some sweetness as well, and the finish gets even sweeter. Toffee and burned caramel. Crème Brule with a floral touch.

This is just very pleasant from start to finish. Very well crafted, and I have no doubt about the quality of the Sherry casks. My only wish would be that Glengoyne would make some expressions with higher ABV in these older bottlings. Wow that would be good! I will give this 88/100 (22/22/22/22).
